WHAT'S NEW ON FRANKLIN AVE?

Franklin Avenue Kids Day – Merchants Giving Back

Last summer, Franklin Avenue’s merchant community came together like never before to give the children of Crown Heights an unforgettable day of fun in the sun. Led by About Time Boutique and the Crow Hill Community Association, local business leaders raised and donated thousands of dollars, which they used to to turn Franklin Avenue between Sterling Place and Park Place into a spectacular playground for a day. The street was closed to traffic with the support of the 77th Precinct and packed with carnival rides and games, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, and prizes, all absolutely free and open to the entire community. The local FDNY firehouse even brought a fire engine by and gave tours! Hundreds of children ran, jumped, played, and left with smiles on their faces, thanks to the combined efforts of Franklin Avenue’s merchants. Click the “Featured Video” below to see for yourself – thanks to local filmmaker Jan Weber, we now have a beautiful record of the event.

This year, the newly-created Franklin Avenue Merchants association is aiming even higher, and planning has already begun. We can’t do it without your support, however, so whether you’re a merchant, a resident, or just someone looking to support the youth of Crown Heights, get involved!
